Ron Gallaway, farmer, dedicated community worker and super salesman for Saskatchewan fairs and exhibitions, was born April 26, 1925, at Estevan.
He graduated from local schools and earned a diploma at the University of Saskatchewan School of Agriculture in 1948.
He became active in the Estevan Agricultural Society in 1948 and served as manager, president and chairman of many board committees over the years. He was regional representative to the Saskatchewan Agricultural Societies Association for six years and president of the provincial body, 1973-74. He was founding president for the Saskatchewan Association of Fairs and Exhibitions and served on the board eight years. He was chairman of the task force that recommended amalgamating SASA and SAFE into the Saskatchewan Association of Agricultural Societies and Exhibitions (SAASE) and served as president of the combined organization in 1988. He was on the board of the Western Canada Fairs Association for 15 years and president in 1970 and 1980.
Ron served on the University of Saskatchewan Senate for eight years. He was active in Partners In Growth, the organization raising funds for the universityís new College of Agriculture building. He is currently on the University of Regina Senate and is on the advisory council of the University of Saskatchewan College of Agriculture. He was on the board of Western Development Museums 10 years and on the Saskatchewan Agricultural Hall of Fame committee two years.
He served on the provincial livestock board, the provincial warble control board, the surface rights arbitration board and the museum grants advisory committee.
For his contributions he has been named a life member of the Western Canada Fairs Association, honorary life member SASA (1980), to the Roll of Honor, Canadian Association of Exhibitions (1983), honorary president, Estevan Exhibition and Farmer of the Year in Estevan (1986).
Ron was on the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool local committee for 33 years, 10 of them as chairman. He served on two local school boards for 20 years, on the rural telephone company and 31 years on the agricultural district board.
With all his contributions locally, regionally and provincially Ron Gallaway found time to operate a grain and cattle farm and help raise a family.
